Unlock Screen Rotation On iPad

You can make your app rotate on your iPad according to your wish by turning your device from portrait mode to landscape mode and vice versa. If you select the option of lock rotation then no matter how you turn your iPad, your screen will remain in the same orientation. If you face the problem of screen rotation then you should unlock screen rotation on iPad to solve it.

Methods To Unlock Screen Rotation On iPad

If the screen rotation isn’t locked and you still facing the problem, then you can try one of the following troubleshooting methods.

1. Check the Lock Icon

The first thing you need to check is the iPad’s rotation settings. If the rotation setting is locked, unlock screen rotation on the iPad to get rid of this issue. In order to check if rotation is locked, look for a lock icon on the status bar at the top of the screen. If it is visible to you, it means the rotation is locked, tapping on the lock icon once will unlock the screen rotation on your iPad.

However, if the iPad’s rotation is unlocked and the still screen does not rotate, then that means there’s some problem with the app you’re using. To make sure that this is the case, go to some other app that can turn on your iPad screen rotation such as a camera, and then try rotating your iPad. If the screen turns, it means the app you’re using is the real problem.

2. With Side Switch, Manage Rotation.

Depending on the settings, the side switch of the iPad works as a mute button or rotation control button. If it’s set on rotation control, push it up to unlock screen rotation on iPad and push it down to lock screen rotation.

In order to set the side switch as the rotation control button, go to Settings and tap on General. Now, scroll to the Use side switch option and select Lock rotation.

Choose Lock Screen Option

3. Unlock Screen Rotation on iPad through Control Centre

You can use the control centre too to unlock screen rotation on the iPad. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or swipe down, depending on the software version of your iPad. Find the icon of the lock with a circular arrow around it. If the icon is highlighted in white, it means that the rotation is locked. Click on it once to unlock it.

Next, you’ll get a message saying Orientation Lock: Off, and the lock icon will disappear from the status bar. If the rotation lock is managed by a side switch; then the control centre displays the mute button instead of the rotation lock icon.

4. Restarting or Erasing Your iPad

Restart your device if you cannot change your screen orientation even after unlocking screen rotation. In order to restart, press and hold the power button until the slide to power off appears. Swipe right and after your device is off; press and hold the power button once again till the Apple logo appears.

Once your device is turned on, check if your device still faces screen rotation problems. If it does, then you can reset your iPad using one of the two below given options:-

  • Hold down the power button and home button simultaneously for a few seconds till you can see the Apple logo appearing on your screen. Release both of the buttons and wait till your device is completely turned on again.
  • Go to the Settings app and select the option of General. Then, select the Erase all content and settings option. Once a confirmation menu will pop up, Confirm to erase the data on the iPad.
