Xiaomi Overtakes Apple To Become The 2nd Largest Phone Maker

Xiaomi Overtakes Apple

For the first time, a Chinese giant secured a position in the top smartphone vendors worldwide. It would be fair to talk about how a Chinese smartphone company made it possible. Canalys reported that Xiaomi brings to the fore, securing a second global position in the list of top smartphone sellers in the world. The recent report shows that Xiaomi overtakes Apple making annual growth extremely high compared to what is achieved by Apple.

The report incorporates the second quarter marketing shipment share of all smartphone companies. It also includes the annual shipment rate. These two parameters are enough to guess how Xiaomi overtakes Apple.

The Research Manager at Canalys, Ben Stanton stated that

“All vendors are fighting hard to secure component supply amid a global shortage, but Xiaomi already has its sights set on the next prize: displacing Samsung to become the world’s largest vendor.”

How Xiaomi Overtakes Apple?

The first parameter that is market shipment represents a 12% increase in the global shipment market. Canalys reported that Samsung secured the first position and holds 19% of the market by beating all smartphone brands.

On the other side, Xiaomi holds 17% whereas Apple holds 14% of marketing smartphones shipment; followed by Vivo and Oppo holding 10% each. The statistics simply show that Apple could not secure a top position and Xiaomi overtakes Apple on the list.

Q2 2021

The other parameter which shows the annual shipment rate also concludes Xiaomi‘s success. Xiaomi grew the highest annual rate by 83% even in the time of the pandemic; the highest among the top five. Following the annual shipment rate, Vivo grew by 27%, Oppo by 28%, Samsung by 15%, and Apple by 1% downplayed for the time being.

However, this is the first time in the second quarter of 2021 when the Chinese giant secured 2nd position. Xiaomi doesn’t have a market in the U.S. while Apple owns it, but Xiaomi’s huge user base benefited in overtaking Apple.

Further, Xiaomi is now focusing on its upcoming launches of Mi 11 Ultra (featuring rear display) and Mi 12, expecting a growth in the user base. In addition, Xiaomi overtakes Apple and sets an example for other brands to do their best.
