Evolution of PSP
The first model image of PSP emerged in 2003 when Sony had a corporate strategy meeting. Many concerns over flat buttons and no analog joystick help out Sony to disclose the list of 99 companies that had shown interest in providing the new handheld.
In 2004, the company launched its first PSP in Japan whose selling price went up by US $45 than the estimated value (US $181) and again, in 2005, the selling price was higher by $20 for the Japanese model and US $100 for the Nintendo in America. Hence, the launch was a success.
In 2007, a slimmer and lighter version of PSP ‘PSP-2000’ was launched featuring a brighter screen and improved performance. In 2008, PSP could connect to the TV via video-out cable. Coming version like ‘PSP Go’ could not stand in the market because of its poor sale. In 2011, the company launched a budget-focus model ‘PSP-Street’ (black and ice-white) only for the PAL region, and get succeeded. Another model ‘Xperia-Play’ PSP cum smartphone introduced, supports games that can be downloaded from the PlayStation mobile application.
Playstation Vita(2011) becomes significant because of the backward compatibility with PSP games and it featured cross-play and remote-play. In 2013, they launched its slimmer version promising better battery life that is available in multiple colors.
Sony’s PSP version earned a huge profit just in a decade. It sold over 80 million units from 2004 to 2010. In 2019, Sony officially closed the production of PSP. Nevertheless, the demand for PSP remained unchanged.
